Orthopedic Acupuncture with a Gentle Japanese Approach
Orthopedic Acupuncture integrates functional movement testing, palpation of the involved structures, and treatment based on what is found in the body. We use gentle Acupuncture techniques rooted in Japanese Acupuncture, along with gentle warming moxibustion when circulation support and tissue recovery are appropriate.
Treatments are well tolerated, even for patients who are sensitive or hesitant about Acupuncture. When needles are used, we work with the thinnest Japanese needles, as fine as a hair follicle. We work with care and intention.
This approach is often effective for cases that have not fully responded to other treatments.
We Specialize in Cases That Have Not Resolved Elsewhere
Many of our patients arrive after months or years of working through other options. Physical therapy, chiropractic care, injections, rest. What they share is pain that has not fully resolved and a need for a different clinical perspective.
We also see acute injuries, sports-related strain, and patients who simply want precise, assessment-driven care from the start.
● Active adults managing pain and recurring flare-ups from hiking, trail running, climbing, cycling, pickle ball, training, or overuse
● Athletes with sports injuries, overuse conditions, and performance-limiting pain
● Acute injuries from lifting, twisting, or sudden strain
● Pain that radiates into the hips, glutes, legs, or into the limbs or refers to areas away from the source
● Stiffness and limited mobility that worsens with sitting or inactivity
●Complex or unclear diagnoses that have not responded to conventional care
● Last hope. When you feel that you have no options left, Chinese Medicine can offer you a different perspective on your health. Often times, this difference equates to a better quality of life for you.
● Long-standing back pain that has not fully responded to other care
● Auto-immune conditions, post-viral complications, Arthritis, tendonitis
● Pre and post surgical support –eases pain and speeds recovery times
● GI symptoms, immune system, skin (Psoriasis, hives, post Shingles symptoms, etc)
Clinical Depth That’s Genuinely Rare
Chad Johnson, MS, L.Ac.
Clinic Director · Licensed Acupuncturist · Orthopedic Specialist
Chad’s work is shaped by over 20 years of direct clinical experience, 17 years of advanced training in Japanese Acupuncture including direct study with Kiiko Matsumoto, and direct training in Japan. His approach combines precise palpation, orthopedic assessment, and targeted needling to identify and treat the structures driving pain. He is the only practitioner in Asheville and Greater Western North Carolina working in this tradition.
Before becoming an acupuncturist, Chad trained in Massage Therapy and spent years working in a range of Western and Eastern modalities including Shiatsu and Tui Na. That foundation, combined with decades of anatomical study, supports a level of precision patients often notice early in care.
This depth of training allows for a more specific, results-oriented approach, especially in cases that have not fully responded to other treatments.
